The Swedish Convention for Academic Ceremonies

The Swedish Convention for Academic Ceremonies gathers representatives from almost all universitites and university colleges in Sweden. The Convention's main purpose is to facilitate and foster a platform for the interchange of knowledge and best practices pertaining to Swedish academic traditions, ceremonies, and academic protocol. The convention is charged with the task of preserving, caring, and refining both the shared common academic heritage and traditions, as well as safeguarding its members' specific traditions and ceremonial features.

Meetings and operations

The convention convenes twice a year, with the annual general meeting during the spring semester and with a programme of study visits during the fall semester. The annual general meeting is most commonly held at and organised by one of our members. In some rare occasions the meeting is held at a foreign, european university with long-standing academic traditions and ceremonies. During the fall, study visits are organised for our members where they get the opportunity to visit different companies, organisations, and govenrment agencies with operations that is of interest for the profession.

Database of honorary doctorates

Apart from being a resource for our members the convention also provides a register of honorary doctorates that has been issued by Swedish universities and university colleges. The register is open to the general public but is foremost a resource for faculties and faculty members in the pursuit of presenting and deciding on the creation of new honorary doctors.
